WASP OBJECTIVES
Women Abused by Serving Police officers
- Walk alone no more
- Assistance in seeking redress
- Support in every step of your journey towards closure
- Prevention of the abuse of women by those paid to keep them safe
WASP is a start-up organisation working towards becoming a registered charity.
WASP has come into being as women who have suffered police abuse or those
fighting for justice may find themselves in a very lonely place.
Perhaps this isolation is best summed by The Centre of Women’s Justice who said,
‘I understand you are looking to set up a charity ‘WASP’ as a support organisation for women impacted by police officer abuse. Firstly, this is a fantastic and much needed initiative and we are pleased to try to do what we can in helping you to develop it further. From speaking with many women impacted by this, as you have identified, the double jeopardy faced by women who have suffered abuse alongside being faced with institutional police corruption/cover-up/failings causes deep feelings of isolation’
Women Abused by Serving Police officers
A telephone helpline manned by previous victims of police abuse who will be known as ‘reclaimers’. (WASP will not promote the use of the expression ‘survivor’ just to survive is not sufficient. We will support women to reclaim happiness, joy, justice, self-esteem and dignity.)
Setting up a support group for women who have been abused by police officers. This will allow women to meet with or pick up the phone to other women with the same experience.
Advice on options for seeking justice/redress and the assertion of the human rights of victims of police abuse.
Assistance in the making of a formal complaint to the police. All initial complaints will be drafted by a legally qualified person.
Assisting women, in potentially serious cases, to obtain full legal representation. A professionally drafted case summary will allow busy specialist solicitors to quickly assess if it is a case they would be willing to take on.
The support of a ‘police action buddy’ throughout the police complaints procedure and/or any legal action.
Campaigning by way of academic research and raising public awareness to achieve measures that will operate to prevent the abuse of women by police officers.
Campaigning for a ‘fast track’ civil justice system for women bringing abuse claim against the police. Currently, women who ‘dare’ to claim compensation for a ruined life are put through many years of further distress and trauma.
Whilst awaiting registration we can still offer all the services outlined in our objectives so please get in touch by email if you
Become a trustee
In order to progress our registration to The Charity Commission we need one more trustee!!
If you can help us by becoming a trustee this could be on a minimum involvement basis which would be to ensure the charity is compliant with its charity status by attending 4 Zoom meeting a year. But anyone wanting to become more fully involved with our organisation would be hugely welcomed!!!
